Pandemic Endgame?

Yes, I am writing about COVID-19 again. One of the early predictions about how the pandemic would unfold is finally happening. The virus is spreading like a wildfire among sports teams all over the world. I have so many questions.

• Is this being caused primarily by the Omicron variant?
• Are these infections asymptomatic or less severe?
• Have the tests become more sensitive or is the variant more easily detected?
• Is Omicron able to evade the protection offered by the vaccines?
• Students in schools and universities have mostly been spared so far. Is that going to change now?
• Is this the final wave that will push humanity over the herd immunity threshold?

I am still planning to get a booster shot of the vaccine but I am wondering if that’s a sensible strategy at this point.
