Minecraft

I know that Minecraft is quite a popular game. A few acquaintances run their own Minecraft servers for their kids. I have only played it a couple of times on an Xbox 360 and did not really enjoy it.

Today I stumbled upon a short YouTube video about Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, the original creator of the game. While the details of his personal life were interesting in their own way, I was surprised to learn about the history of the game itself.

The game was created in 2009 and quickly sold a million copies within a year of its 2011 release. For some reason, I thought it was a much older game that had spent several years underground. The game was already wildly profitable when Microsoft bought it in 2014 for $2.5 billion.

I still don’t get the appeal of the game but I might give it another shot next year.
